NCWAS Exhibition Visit

My husband and I visited the art exhibit at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum (see THIS post) today and it was a fun day in spite of sitting in the truck for 4 hours down there and 4 hours back home! At least the weather was gorgeous and none of the flooding from the past week or so was much in evidence.

The exhibition was very nice and the art was all very well done and I wanted to show some photos I took while there and this is not all of the paintings. I'm not a professional photographer and some just didn't come out well enough to post. The ones below are purposely small but you can click on them to enlarge them some.

Two of the paintings I submitted are in the last photo above - the heron and the butterfly on the red flower. I'd also taken another painting shown below, which I was told sold on the first day of the exhibition.

This is a painting that I particularly like because it's acrylic - yes, acrylic! I felt this was the one acrylic painting that went well and where the struggle with the paint was worth it. This photo is terrible as it's a copy of a copy but at least you'll know what painting sold.

Just wanted to bring everyone up to date and thought a blog post would do that!

Congratulations on your well deserved sale ... what a lovely painting - great subject and beautifully painted. I believe 'Coons' are considered a pest in your part of the World, but to us 'across the pond' they are incredibly cute!; October 15, 2015 at 4:18 PM

We think raccoons are cute too and really fun to watch sometimes. They normally don't bother us out here but can be pests in urban areas. We rarely even see one since they're pretty nocturnal.; October 16, 2015 at 5:07 AM
Sue Clinker said...: Just had another look at your photos and it seems there is a preponderance of bird subjects (or is that just on the one section)? so maybe you should stick to 'other critturs' for the next exhibition to stand out from the crowd?; October 17, 2015 at 10:17 AM
Jan said...: Hey again, Sue. The museum where the exhibit is being held is a waterfowl museum. It has a wonderful display of duck decoys and waterfowl objects of all kinds. While the theme of the exhibit was 'Images of Wild North Carolina' and any creature found in NC qualified for the exhibit, many of the artists who exhibit are those who paint shore birds and especially ducks for our duck stamp competitions. I expected to see a lot of ducks, geese and swans and did try to go in a little different direction with my entries.

I'm really new to the Society but was told that future exhibits could well be anything I wanted to paint.
